Betty R. Carpenter, age 88 of Athens died early Saturday morning, April 26, 2008 at Hickory Creek Nursing Center, The Plains. Born Nov. 11, 1919 in Glouster, she was the daughter of the late Ralph C. & Helen L. Williams Carpenter.
A 1937 graduate of Glouster High School and a 1944 graduate of Ohio University with a degree in Home Economics, she was a merchandise manager for retail stores in Rochester, New York and Short Hills, New Jersey. She returned to Athens in 1971 and was a member of the United Methodist Faith and the Kappa Phi Club.
Betty is survived by her sister, Katie Hoisington of Athens; a niece, Susan Highberg and three nephews- Bob Highberg, Jim (Annette) Hoisington and David (Liz) Hoisington.
Beside her parents she is preceded in death by a sister, Mary Frances Highberg.
Graveside service will be conducted Tuesday 1:00PM at Athens Memory Gardens by Rev. Timothy Waugh. Friends may call Tuesday 11:30AM until 12:30PM at Jagers & Sons Funeral Home, Athens.
