The E.W. Scripps School of Journalism, Campus Progress and the Athens Free Press are hosting the second annual Media Reform Conference this weekend at Ohio University.

Titled “We Still Want Better Media,” the conference starts this Friday at 7:30 p.m. and runs Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. in Anderson Auditorium in Ohio University’s Scripps Hall.?

The second annual media reform conference is being held to address issues of conflict of interest, corporate consolidation and media agenda-setting within the mainstream media, focusing on media coverage of political and social concerns.

Terry Anderson, the former Associated Press journalist who was held hostage in Beirut, Lebanon, for six years, will give the keynote address Saturday at 4:45 p.m.

Conference panels also will address career opportunities in progressive journalism.

The conference starts with the documentary, “A Soldier's Peace,” produced by OU graduate student and Iraq War veteran Marshall Thompson, who will answer questions after the screening. On Saturday, participants can go to panels and breakout sessions covering issues ranging from media and politics, the negative effects of media on Muslim youth in India to the availability of media jobs in the non-profit sector of Appalachia. The panels and sessions feature OU professors, media professionals and students.
