New Mex restaurant to open next week
March 27, 2008
The long-awaited Chipotle Mexican Grill will celebrate its grand opening in Athens on Friday, April 4, though the restaurant is holding a “free burrito day” on Thursday, April 3.
The Chipotle restaurant will operate in the storefront formerly occupied by the uptown Taco Bell, and for many years before that, the Varsity Theater, at 41 S. Court St.
The restaurant will be open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily.
According to a news release, the Chipotle chain stresses its fresh premium-quality food, “cool décor” and speedy service, as well as organic and natural foods. All of the fresh food is prepared in open kitchens in plain view of customers. In ordering burritos and tacos, the release said, customers can choose from a variety of ingredients – cilantro-lime rice, whole black or pinto beans, grilled or braised marinated meats, freshly grilled vegetables, house-made guacamole, aged shredded cheddar cheese, sour cream and a choice of fresh salsas.
The chain, which opened its first restaurant in 1993, has more than 700 outlets.
