Man pleads to firing gun on OU’s South Green

A spring 2008 incident that led to an Athens campus crime alert was resolved in Athens County Municipal Court on Aug. 12 when a 23-year-old Pataskala, Ohio, man pleaded no contest to two first-degree misdemeanor charges.
Acting Judge Herman Carson sentenced former Ohio University student Nathaniel W. Kuhn on charges of using weapons while intoxicated and discharge of firearm on or near prohibited premises. Kuhn received a 180-day jail term, two years of alcohol and anger management counseling, two years of probation, a $2,000 fine and a lifetime ban from all Ohio University campuses. Carson suspended the jail term and $1,500 of the fine provided Kuhn, a student at the time of the incident, does not violate his probation.
According to an OU police report filed the day of the incident, a witness told police she saw a white male fire one gunshot into the air in front of Brown residence hall on South Green at about 3:30 a.m. March 9. The OU Police Department immediately issued a crime alert.
“I am quite pleased with this investigation and applaud the due diligence of our investigative unit,” OU Chief of Police Michael Martinsen said in a news release. “Its hard work has resulted in the solving of this case.”
