Proud of your LGBT pride? Then come proudly out to celebrate OU"s Pride Week

April 24, 2008

Pride Week 2008’s theme is “PRIDE!... And proud of it!”

The week on the Ohio University campus runs from Wednesday, April 23 to Wednesday, April 30 and includes 20 educational and social events.

Nearly all events are free and open to the campus and area community members. This year’s week coincides with the Athens International Film and Video Festival, so there is a strong emphasis on LGBT images in film, according to a press release.

Pride Week is a student-coordinated effort through the OU Student Senate’s Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender Affairs Commission. Co-sponsors include: Empowering Women of Ohio, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender Center, ALLY, Open Doors, Up in Arms, Amnesty International, United Campus Ministry, Women’s Center, University Program Council, Student Activities Commission and the Athens International Film and Video Festival.

Also in conjunction with Pride Week, the LGBT Center will release the 2008 Faces of Pride posters and Web page. Faces of Pride features 38 LGBT and Ally students, faculty, and staff of OU. Posters will be posted throughout campus. The Web page, http://www.ohio.edu/lgbt/faces2008.cfm will be active starting Tuesday, April 22.
