The comedy, “Dearly Beloved,” is being performed by the Athenian Berean Community Players tonight through Sunday afternoon at Stuart’s Opera House in Nelsonville. So what’s it about? The ABC Players are glad you asked:
“Leave a message.” Beep.

“Hi Sis. It’s Tina Jo. I just need somebody to talk to. Tomorrow is supposed to be the happiest day of my life, but I’m dreading the whole horrid ordeal. Oh, I’m looking forward to becoming Mrs. Parker Price. But you and I both know that this wedding is going to be a disaster. Nothing about it reflects my personal tastes. Our mother decided that the theme would be ‘Gone with the Wind.’ I don’t even know who will perform the ceremony, since our preacher had to go out of town for his rehab program… ”

Tina Jo is recounting the situation at the beginning of “Dearly Beloved,” a play by Jessie Jones, Nicholas Hope and Jamie Wooten. It doesn’t take long for Tina Jo to realize that control of her wedding has passed out of her hands, and into those of her mother, Frankie, and Frankie’s two sisters, Honey Ray and Twink. Tina Jo isn’t so sure about how steady those hands are, either, with Frankie’s tendency to talk to her dead mother, Twink’s desperation to force her long-time boyfriend down the aisle, and Honey Ray’s inclination to say “I do” before she even knows whom she is saying it to.

The chaos escalates as wedding plans fall apart and the bride and groom disappear. It is left up to the once united singing sisters to put their troubles aside and pull together a wedding and performance that no one will ever forget.

The ABC Players present “Dearly Beloved” at 8 p.m., tonight through Saturday, and 2 p.m. on Sunday. Tickets may be purchased from the Opera House ticket office by calling (740) 753-1924 weekdays or by visiting www.stuartsoperahouse.org. Tickets may also be purchased at the door.

The cast includes, among others, Celeste Parsons (Miss Geneva Musgrave, florist and wedding coordinator), Heidi Wilhelm (twin sisters Tina Jo and G. J. Dubberly), and Ginny Puhl (Honey Raye Futrelle, eldest Futrelle sister. Chris Coleman is the director.
