Editor’s note: During finals week and spring break, some regular events at Ohio University venues such as Baker Center might skip a week or two, so please call ahead, or check OU’s online calendar, if you have any doubts about whether an event is being held. The same goes for regular events at local clubs that mainly cater to OU students. TS

 

Thursday

MUSIC:

• Music every Thursday from 6-8 p.m. at Cutler’s Restaurant in the OU Inn.

ART:

• Art of the Zuni. Kennedy Museum of Art, Lin Hall, OU. Through Nov. 20, 2008.

• “Gallery 66: Selling the Southwest.” Kennedy Museum of Art, Lin Hall, OU. Through May 4, 2008.

• Education Galleries: Art of the Zuni and Sheep to Loom. Ongoing at the Kennedy Museum of Art, Lin Hall, OU.

• “OH + 5.” Sixth biennial juried art exhibition. Features artists from Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia. The Dairy Barn. Through April 13.  

• Adam Mitchell, Mike Elsass and Pat Elsass, painters. Casa Cantina. Through March.

• Exhibit featuring the photography of Frank Norton, which runs through March. The exhibit offers a glimpse into the people, life and environment of the city of Sao Paolo, Brazil and the coast of Sao Paolo State.

• Historical exhibit — “Ancestors of Athens County: Treasures from First Families” — explores pioneer-era objects in the Athens County Historical Society and Museum’s collection. Exhibit runs through Aug. 1

Childhood Immunizations: Every Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to noon in the ground floor of Parks Hall, OU. OU-COM Community Service Programs’ Childhood Immunization Program. Free to all area children from birth through 18. Bring your child’s previous shot records.

Free Clinic: The Ohio University College of Medicine Community Health Program provides a free clinic every week for those 19-64. Please call 740-593-9364 or 1-800-844-2654 for more information.

Theater: Ohio Valley Summer Theater presents “The Glass Menagerie.” March 27-29 at 8 p.m. and Sunday, March 30, at 2 p.m. ARTS/West, 132 W. State St., Athens. www.ovst.org.

Bloodmobile: 1-7 p.m. at Stuart’s Opera House.

Retirement Reception: For Magistrate Karen Harvey, from 3-5 p.m. A program will take place in Courtroom A (third floor) of the county courthouse at 3:30 p.m.

Film: “America: Freedom to Fascism” by Aaron Russo, 2006. The movie reviews the formation of the IRS and Federal Reserve System. 6:30-9 p.m. at the Athens Public Library.

Final Friday: 6-10 p.m. at participating galleries and other venues in and around Nelsonville Public Square.

Art: Third annual Art Invitational, March 28 to May 15, at the Hocking College Art Gallery in Nelsonville. Opening reception March 28 from 6-10 p.m.

Art: Nelsonville Pottery & Gifts is holding a spring cleaning. Sarah Jane Mills and Susan Winland will be selling beads from their lifelong collections. Margaret Gustafan will show ceramics and botanicals. 6-10 p.m.

 

Saturday

 

MUSIC:

• St. James Orthodox Mission Church in Marietta will host renowned pianist George Skaroulis at the Marietta High School auditorium. 7 p.m. Oft-recorded Skaroulis’ music has been used in PBS documentaries as well as SIRIUS Satellite Radio.

Athens Farmers Market: 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Every Saturday and Wednesday on East State Street at the University Mall. (No Wednesday market till spring.)

Community Conversation: About global climate change. 2-4:30 p.m. at the Athens Public Library. Everyone welcome.

Cleanup Project: The staff and Americorp*VISTA’s of ReUse Industries are organizing a service project to clean up ReUse’s adopted highway on U.S. Rt. 50 to coincide with the Ohio Great American Cleanup on the last weekend in March. Any person or group who would like to participate should call Emily Camm at 698-8200, ext. 15, for information. Volunteers will meet at 74815 U.S. Highway 50 at the ReUse Albany farm at 11 a.m. Lunch will be provided.

Birth Circle Meeting: “Having a Baby? Ten Questions to Ask.” 7-8:30 p.m. at the Athens Public Library. Free and open to the public.

Caregiver Series: Every Wednesday in April, the Athens Public Library and OU College of Osteopathic Medicine are presenting seminars to inform and assist the elderly and their caregivers. 6-7:30 p.m. at the library. This one will be about resources for the caregiver.

Town Hall Meeting: Part of a national effort to increase understanding and awareness of underage drinking and its consequences. 6 p.m. at Trimble Local High School.
