ART:
• Art of the Zuni. Kennedy Museum of Art, Lin Hall, OU. Through Nov. 20.
• Historical exhibit — “Ancestors of Athens County: Treasures from First Families” — explores pioneer-era objects in the Athens County Historical Society and Museum’s collection. Through Aug. 1.
• Bead International and Beyond Basketry. An exhibition of pierced objects and woven vessels that features trends in the media of beads and basketry. Dairy Barn Arts Center. Through Sept. 1.
• “Burmese Days,” a photography exhibit by Ben Lachman, based on a stint in Burma/Myanmar in 2005 for volunteer work. Through Aug. 2 at Donkey Coffee.
• The Athens County Historical Society and Museum is holding a Civil War exhibit called “Heroes and Hell Raisers: Athens County and Ohio during in the Civil War” at the Athens County Military Museum in Nelsonville. • Third annual National Juried Competition at Majestic Galleries in Nelsonville. Through July 20.
MISCELLANEOUS:
Supper: Weekly free supper sponsored by UCM: Center for Spiritual Growth and Social Justice. 5:30 p.m. at UCM, 18 N. College St. Open to everyone, no questions asked. For more information on the free meal, call 593-7301.
Free Community Meals: Are being provided this summer, Mondays through Fridays from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. through Aug. 8, at The Plains United Methodist Church. The food is provided by the staff and volunteers of Good Works Inc. and the church. No eligibility requirements. Volunteers interested in assisting with food preparation can contact Good Works at 594-3339.
Childhood Immunizations: Every Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to noon in the ground floor of Parks Hall, OU. OU-COM Community Service Programs’ Childhood Immunization Program. Free to all area children from birth through 18. Bring your child’s previous shot records.
Free Clinic: The Ohio University College of Medicine Community Health Program provides a free clinic every week for those 19-64. Please call 740-593-9364 or 1-800-844-2654 for more information.
Produce Donations: Community Food Initiatives wants your help in feeding the hungry in our community. Bring any extra produce from your gardens to the CFI Donation Station at the Athens Farmers Market or drop it off at 143 Morris Ave., Athens. All donations will be given to local agencies that support the abused, homeless and hungry. 593-5971.
Bloodmobile: Noon to 6 p.m. at Richland Methodist Church, 60 Pomeroy Road, Athens.
Boomsday 2008: Athens’ Fourth of July celebration, which runs Thursday and Friday. On Thursday, a benefit car show will run from 7-9:30 p.m. in the University Mall parking lot. Free hot dogs while supplies last. Then at 10 p.m. the fireworks display will start on East State Street.

Thunder in the Valley Fireworks Spectacular: In Nelsonville. Noon to 2:30 p.m.: Hocking Valley Scenic Railroad 4th of July Trains (www.hvsry.org). 7:30-9:30 p.m.: Hocking Valley Scenic Railway Park and Ride Shuttle, from the railroad depot to Hocking College. One return shuttle after the fireworks. 8-10:30 p.m.: Food for sale by local vendors, or bring your own. Shelter House. 10 p.m.: Fireworks Spectacular at the Hocking College campus.
Hall of Fame Festival: From 5-11 p.m. on Friday and from 1-11 p.m. on Saturday. Old Ball Diamond in Murray City. Games, music and food. The celebration culminates with fireworks at 10 p.m. on Saturday. Bring a lawnchair for the day’s events.
Boomsday 2008: Athens’ Fourth of July celebration. At 9:50 a.m., the second annual Kenneth Kerr Memorial Fun Run/Walk. Starts at Morris Avenue, follows parade route, and ends at the county fairgrounds in Athens. At 10 a.m., the Fourth of July Parade starts. No registration fee. Line up on Morris Avenue at 9:30, first come, first served. 594-2251 for more info.
