This could be the luckiest year for annual fall Hookah celebration

October 2, 2008

Organizers of this fall’s Hookah in the Hills are hoping that seven is their lucky number. The outdoor music festival celebrates its seventh installment this weekend at Poston Lake near Guysville.

The festival features two nights of long-running jam band ekoostik hookah, who will play two sets each night, in addition to Mike Perkins, Papadosio, Chicago Afrobeat Project, Davisson Brothers Band, Joe Prichard Band, late night fire performances by Elemotion Movement Arts with percussion, and horn accompaniment by Chicago Afrobeat Project.

Poston Lake Music Park on New England Road is a 35-acre music venue with two ponds, a permanent stage, permanent restrooms (as well as port-o-johns), and lots of room for parking and camping. Poston Lake has been the host of Poston Lake Bluegrass Festival for 24 years and two previous Hookah in the Hills.

Tickets are available online now until midnight today at www.hookahinthehills.com. For each ticket bought online In Ticketing will plant one tree.

Organizers are billing Hookah in the Hills as a family affair, suitable for all ages, with food and beverages available on site as well as merchandise vendors selling a wide variety of clothing, arts, crafts and other concert merchandise. (No Alcohol will be sold at the event but patrons can bring their own beer, wine and/or liquor). The rain-or-shine event will include a kids area with games, face painting, etc.

ekoostik hookah, in its 18th year, describes itself as “the nucleus of a family drawn to its lucid, improvisational treatment of psychedelic rock ’n roll, blues, funk, jazz and bluegrass layered with rich harmonies.”

The music begins at 3 p.m. Friday and continues into Saturday’s early morning, then restarts Saturday at noon.

The main promoter for Fall Hookah in the Hills is Big Events Presents.
