South by Southwest Diary
March 12, 2008
Southeast Engine heads to South By Southwest this year. The famed Austin, Texas, music festival began in 1987 as a “Battle of the Bands” and has grown into one of the largest musical galas in the United States, featuring more than 1,400 performers.
Through the four-day festival, music clubs and venues throughout Austin feature nightly (and often daily) lineups of bands from all over the world, ranging from famous to “buzz-worthy” to willfully obscure.
Lou Reed is the keynote speaker for SXSW 2008, which runs from Wednesday through Sunday of this week. R.E.M., Van Morrison, Spoon, The Black Keys and My Morning Jacket are all scheduled to play, along with a countless slew of up-and-coming bands from across the globe.
Southeast Engine was slated to play the Misra Records Showcase Wednesday at midnight, in a lineup with other Misra acts, headlined by Centro-Matic.
The band is happier than a horse in a hay store to represent Athens at the fest and will provide a “SXSW Diary” throughout the week. The diary will aim to capture the energy of the event and will appear online at www.athensnews.com. — Leo DeLuca, drummer, Southeast Engine (with additions provided by Athens NEWS Editor Terry Smith)
