| LETTERS
to the Editor |
| |
| The
Athens NEWS welcomes your thoughts and opinions. Though
we accept letters that are mailed, faxed or submitted
in person, we prefer letters sent by e-mail. If you cannot
e-mail a letter by the preferred method (as a Microsoft
Word attachment), please copy and paste your letter into
the message area of your e-mail. |
| |
| If
you would like for us to consider your letter for publication,
please include your full name, street address and telephone
number. If you are sending an attached letter in Microsoft
Word, include the identifying information in the attachment.
Only the street and/or town name will be published, not
the house or apartment number. Letters are subject to
editing for space and clarity. We have a 400-word limit
for letters. Longer letters can be considered as Reader’s
Forums, which run on a space-available basis. We do not
publish anonymous letters or letters with incomplete identification.
Our deadline for editorial page submissions is noon on
Friday (for Monday’s paper) and noon on Tuesday
(for Thursday’s paper), though sometimes we will
consider letters that arrive after deadline. We will print
short thank-you letters, though none in excess of 250
words. |

| What’s
Happening Submissions |
| |
| The
Athens NEWS publishes the “What’s Happening”
weekly calendar in every Thursday edition. It covers arts,
entertainment and other public events occurring on that
Thursday, through the following Wednesday. |
| |
“What’s
Happening” submissions should be submitted by noon
on the Tuesday before the Thursday issue. E-mail is the
best way to send these items (news@athensnews.com), though
fax, mail and drop-off letters are also accepted (details
below). In your listing, include the following information:
1) type of event;
2) name of event;
3) time and location of event;
4) sponsorship of event;
5) contact information for sponsors or organizers;
6) any other pertinent information, such as why the event
is being held, what, if any, bands are playing, or RSVP
details. If the event is an exhibit or other program that
runs over a set period of time, please include the closing
date. |
| |
|
In general, any local or area event that’s open
to the public is appropriate for the “What’s
Happening” weekly calendar. The exception is classes
that run on a continuing basis. So many of these are offered
in our community that if we ran them all, we’d have
no space left for other events. We will, however, consider
for inclusion a one-time class or seminar that’s
geared toward the general public. |
